Haiti Initiatives

We are committed to providing financial, educational, medical and professional support to Haiti, emphasizing the following:

  • Focus on those who need our help the most
  • Provide assistance that is sustainable over time
  • Connect our community to the Haitian people in a meaningful way
  • Maximize the impact on the Haitian people.

Our partner in this mission is the St Boniface Haiti Foundation (www.haitihealth.org), who, for almost 30 years, has been improving the lives of Haitians on the southern peninsula. While they provide many services (education, community and economic support), their central focus being healthcare. Their corporate headquarters is right here in the Boston area and their base of operations is the St Boniface Hospital in Fond-des-Blancs, Haiti.

To get the full history of our Haiti mission, please take a few minutes and watch this video interview done with two of our members who are actively involved. (24 minutes)

We currently have 3 active mission efforts in Haiti:

Medical Clinic in Villa

We are committed to providing ongoing financial support for the medical clinic in this rural, mountaintop village near Fond-des-Blancs. While the clinic is operational and successfully treating over 60,000 patients annually, a new clinic is being built to replace the one that was damaged in the last earthquake.

We met our goal in support of the Villa Clinic annual operating budgets for the past 4 years. Your commitment to a one-time or recurring contribution to the Villa Clinic will help us achieve this goal for 2017 and beyond.

Kids for Timoun

"Timoun" is the Creole word for "Kids" – Our teenagers at the Dover Church are working to raise money to help cover educational costs for the children in the Fond-des-Blanc area. There are no public schools in rural Haiti and the cost to educate one student for a year is about $200. This fee covers the tuition, uniform, books and lunch every day that school is in session (and normally the most nutritious meal of the day for the child).

Several local schools in our community, through the work of our teenagers, are getting involved in this mission, including The Dover Sherborn High School.   We’ve had great involvement and success over the past year, raising approximately $16,000 in the past year.

Medical Supplies and Medical Expertise/Referrals

We have been sponsoring trips to the St. Boniface hospital in Haiti, and will accept general medical supplies from donors at any time. These are general medical supplies that can be carried to Haiti in luggage and used by the St Boniface Hospital and Villa Clinic. If you want to make donations, please contact the Dover Church during normal business hours to receive our most current list of needed items.

Medical Expertise and Referrals – If you have skills in the medical field and want to consider volunteering, please let us know by clicking the Get Involved button below.  Our partner, St Boniface, is always looking for help training and advising their staff.
