One of the main purposes of the church is to help people connect to God, our neighbors, and our true selves. For many of us, one of our primary pathways to God, our neighbors and our true selves, is the ministry of parenting. We bring children into this world and then together we find our way forward into life. Our church is going to begin offering workshops on the spirituality of parenting, starting on Saturday, March 2 with later dates to follow.
These parenting workshops are not lectures, but more gatherings facilitated by Max and Karen Hussar, a new member, who is both a professor of Child Development and Lifespan Development at Curry College specializing in children's moral development, and a mother of four.
The format will be listening and offering support in a non-judgmental way...none of us are perfect parents so we are not coming to tell each other how to be super parent. Karen will offer developmental insights and Max will chime in with spiritual assists and reframes. We will expect covenantal behavior: respect, tenderness, mutual up building, and confidentiality.
These gatherings will be by age group:
- Parents of children up to fifth grade will gather at 5:30 pm
- A combined potluck supper at 6:30 pm with parents of Middle School & High School youth
- Then, parents of MS & HS children will meet at 7:30 pm.
There will be child care for the younger children during 5:30-7:30 pm (with fun activities and dinner provided) so that parents can center into this special time. This is a space to connect with people in similar circumstances who share your joys and challenges, as well as to start to see this most important life path in a new light.
The topic for this first gathering is "discipline."
These new workshops should be a lot of fun and we hope you can join us. If this time just does not work for you, please contact Max with alternative times and we will set up other sessions.
We ask that you sign up through the link or by calling the church office, 508-785-0957.
