Wear Red on Pentecost Sunday | The Dover Church
News & Publications
Pentecost is the festival when Christians celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit. It is celebrated on the Sunday 50 days after Easter (the name comes from the Greek pentekoste, "fiftieth"). Pentecost is regarded as the birthday of the Christian church, and the start of the church's mission to the world. On Sunday, June 9 we encourage everyone to wear red. The color red symbolizes joy and the fire of the Holy Spirit. It could be a shirt, a tie, a blouse, a dress, a skirt, a scarf, a necklace. Let's fill the Sanctuary with the color red.
