We rejoice with you as you consider being baptized and seeking baptism for your child. We love baptisms at the Dover Church. They are times of great joy for everyone. While most of our baptisms are infant or small children baptisms, we do have teenagers and adults choose to be baptized from time to time. Because we believe that it is not just the minister baptizing the person, but the whole congregation participating in the sacrament, we prefer to have baptisms as part of Sunday morning worship. Having said that, we also offer private baptisms to those who so desire.
Baptism is one of the two sacraments we celebrate at The Dover Church as a member of the United Church of Christ (the other being Communion). A sacrament is an outward and visible sign of God’s grace, meaning that we can all see the water and the people and we believe that God is blessing and welcoming the person.
Because baptisms are about grace and grace is free, we invite anyone who would like to be baptized to do so. There are no tests to pass or creeds to agree with or fees to pay, just a desire to join in God’s grace and love. We ask that you make an appointment to meet with our pastor to talk about your faith journey, your desire to be baptized or have your child baptized, and to find a date that works both for you and the church. We feel that our faith is personal and it is therefore important that the pastor get to know you so the service can be personal.
After speaking with our pastor and setting a date, please download our Baptismal Application form. Please complete and return to the church office.
