MATE Volunteering FAQ

What are the dates?

We will leave for Maine on Sunday morning, June 23rd and return in the afternoon of Saturday the 29th.

What kind of skills do I have to have?

Of course, construction skills, comfort with tools, and any kind of handy/building experience is super helpful on the worksites up at MATE! That being said, we need all kinds of skill sets to make up a well-rounded team. We pair adults up to be sure that at least one adult is comfortable leading the construction side of things, and value just as highly our volunteers who help with picture taking, morale boosting, teen chaperoning, lunch preparation, burger grilling, van driving, tool organizing, the list goes on and on! If you are excited about the MATE mission and about being part of our team, then we have a spot and a need for you!

What are the sleeping arrangements? Do I have to share a room with someone?

Adults all have single dorm rooms, unless they request to share with another adult or their own family. These singles are usually in amongst the dorm rooms of our students to help us be available should they need anything. Bathrooms are mostly shared.

Do I have to raise $1,250 to volunteer?

We ask our adults to contribute to our fundraising efforts however they can – like by getting the word out in their circles and attending any fundraising events we might have, but we have no expectations of financial contribution for the adults who give their time to chaperone. The fundraising expectations for students is calculated to cover the cost of room and board for our adult volunteers.

Have a question that isn't answered here?

Reach out to Kayla or Max, you probably aren’t the only one with that question!
